'Connectedness' album release

Jacob Shulman is a saxophonist/composer from Los Angeles, living in New York City.

His musical interests include jazz, opera, computer music, and various traditional styles.

His new album "Connectedness" (Endectomorph Music -- Oct. 22, 2021) is a 10-part original composition for jazz quartet, featuring Hayoung Lyou, Simon Willson, and Avery Logan. Earlier work includes the evening-length opera "Role Playing Game" and music programmed for the Nintendo GameBoy.

His main instrument is tenor saxophone, but Jacob also plays clarinet, piano, and Armenian duduk, and creates electronic music with LSDj, SuperCollider, and Ableton Live.

Jacob graduated from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and holds degrees from Princeton University and New England Conservatory.

 Simón Willson is a Chilean born, New York City based bassist, composer and improviser. As an eclectic and in demand sideman, he has toured with a host of different artists in Europe, the US, Canada, and South America. His wide-range interest in different realms of Jazz and improvised music has led him to work with a diverse pool of established artists such as Dave Douglas, Ethan Iverson, Steve Cardenas, George Garzone, Jason Palmer, Rodney Green, Michael Blake, Pablo Held, Jim Black, Tim Miller, Frank Carlberg, among many others. He also plays in bands of contemporaries such as Kevin Sun and Max Light (second place in the Herbie Hancock 2019 guitar competition). In addition to his sideman work, he co-leads the bands Great on Paper, Family Plan, and Earprint. The latter won the “best debut album” category of the NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll in 2016, and Family Plan is releasing their debut album September 24 2021. Willson can be heard on over twenty-five records for labels such as Tzadik, Steeplechase, Newvelle, Endectomorph, in addition to a number of self-releases. He has recently been featured in albums as a member of Dave Douglas’ Sextet, Elan Mehler’s "TJ & the Revenge'' project alongside GRAMMY award-winning guitar player Bill Frisell, and a double record entitled “Live at Wally’s'' with famed trumpet player Jason Palmer as part of his quintet. 

Pianist Hayoung Lyou is an in-demand sideman and bandleader based in New York City. She frequently collaborates with multi-instrumentalist Jasper Dütz in their ongoing duo project and has recorded one album, Metamorphosis, for Endectomorph Music. Born in Korea, Hayoung Lyou began classical piano training at the age of 5 and won competitions such as the Seoul National Orchestra Piano Competition. She attended the Berklee College of Music on scholarship, studying with mentors such as Helen Sung, Hal Crook, and Joanne Brackeen. Lyou also completed graduate studies at the New England Conservatory, studying privately with Ethan Iverson, Jason Moran, and Frank Carlberg.

Avery Logan is a drummer originally from Chapel Hill, NC. Logan graduated from New England Conservatory and frequently performs in New York and Boston.
