Since arriving in NYC from São Paulo, Brasil, by way of the Berklee School of Music, pianist Helio Alves has been a force on the jazz scene, touring and recording with Joe Henderson, Ivan Lins, Claudio Roditi, Dianne Reeves, Paquito d'Rivera, Yo-Yo Ma, Gato Barbieri, and Airto and Flora, and he currently performs regularly with Joyce Moreno, Rosa Passos and Vinicius Cantuária.
He brings a deft touch, deep harmonic knowledge and elegant swing to every situation he is in. In addition to his many recordings as accompanist, he has released four superb CD's as leader, the most recent being
"Musica".
NYC-born bassist Paul Socolow has been a fixture on the New York scene for many years, touring and recording with a dizzying variety of artists, including Herbie Mann, Tania Maria, Gato Barbieri, Michael Franks, Toninho Horta, Phil Woods and David Byrne.
Unsurprisingly, Paul and Helio have shared many of the same employers... Paquito d'Rivera, Claudio Roditi, Gato, and Joyce Moreno... though not at the same time!
They have, however, performed together all across the globe for years with the great Brazilian singer/guitarist/composer Vinicius Cantuária, whose music they very well may touch upon in this performance.
"Projeto do Momento", project of the moment, is just that: a reflection in this moment of the mutual respect between the two musicians, will the modest intent of continuing to explore the common musical ground between a "Paulista" and a New York "Gringo"... and hopefully putting a bit of joy out onto the airwaves....

Drummer Dennis Bulhões, a more recent arrival to NYC, hails from João Pessoa, in Brasil's northeast state
of Paraíba. In 2010 he won first prize in the prestigious " Batuka! Brasil" international drum competition, and has played with the likes of Sivuca, Oswaldo do Accordeon, Maria Creuza, and the brilliant accordion virtuoso Toninho Ferragutti.
He will bring his deep groove and buoyant creative spirit to this first-time endeavor.
