For the last decade, the Outer Bridge Ensemble (OBE) has been rocking festival stages and jazz venues across North America and Europe. They will share their experimental sounds at Soapbox Gallery on Saturday, November 16th at 8pm.
OBE uses American jazz as its backbone and incorporates the vitality of contemporary and world music to drive the ensuing musical journey. The journey? A sound that is tight as it is complex, at times playful or contemplative. OBE’s shifting rhythmic meters and unique instrumentation shed a spotlight on just how accomplished its players are. Don’t miss this one-night engagement of pitch-perfect experimentation and groove!
Their latest recording is to be released in January, “Determined.” OBE has opened for John Scofield, Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove and The Bad Plus.
Right from the opening, loping jazz/funk riffs, you know you can turn your ears over to these pros and let them do what needs to be done. Infusing pop/soul R&B with some swing, New York Latin and Afro beat, the result is anything but the mishmash that laundry list reads like. The perfect record to fire up as the sun is going down and you are just getting your second wind, the fun and funk on parade here is quite grand throughout. Check it out. – Midwest Record
