Filming of 'all these pretty things' by Tracey Yarad

  • Soapbox Gallery 636 Dean Street Brooklyn, NY, 11238 United States (map)

We invitesyou to a filming event this coming Friday evening. If you have 90 minutes to spare to be there in person and add to the energy in the room for the filming we would love to have you as our guests. The show will kick off at 8.00pm sharp and runs for 70 minutes. Complimentary wine will be served after the show.

Tracey Yarad's stunning new album All These Pretty Things is a beautiful alchemy, taking the shocking discovery of her then husband’s affair with their goddaughter--and the subsequent emotional fallout of a devastating divorce--and transforming it into a deeply moving collection of breathtakingly honest and gorgeously sung songs on the themes of loss and abandonment and the restorative power of music and love.

Yarad has taken the paradigm of a new music release as simply a collection of songs, and redefined it as an experiential and sensory journey of sight and sound, with music, writing and spoken word, accompanied by original artworks from ten celebrated Australian artists whose only brief was to listen to and be inspired to create an illustration for the song they were given.

The result--a beautiful illustrated hardback book with fragments of memoir, reminiscent of  New Zealand author Janet Frame's writings, along with a CD of each song and an audio version of each story--is a work of art to be treasured forever.

Today I was truly surprised by talent. I mean gobsmacked. This was no "concert," but a stunning one-woman cabaret show, with a true story that was at once devastating and exhilarating, cathartic, and just beautiful. This gal is a terrific storyteller in words and music.

“This album effectively carried me [on an] emotional roller coaster ride….From thoughtful resignation to heartbreak, rage, acceptance and back again, it’s a great production in every aspect, supporting a soulful, steely-eyed storyteller and her defiant determination.

I like it when I hear her roar!”
