Eric Stern is a 22-year-old pianist, composer, and arranger who is quickly making the rounds as a noteworthy musician in New York City. Having grown up in Brooklyn, New York, Eric studied with people such as Jacob Sacks, Zack O'Farrill, Owen Howard, and in orchestras and small combos around the city. He then moved to Miami Florida, to study at the Frost School of Music. Working with luminaries such as Dafnis Prieto, John Daversa, David Chiverton, and private tutelage with Martin Bejerano, Shelly Berg, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and many notable others gave Eric a deep grounding in how to play classical, jazz, afro-latin, gospel, and a myriad of other styles authentically and fluently.
After graduating from the Frost School of Music this year, he returned to his roots, and now lives in Harlem, studying for his masters at the Manhattan School of Music with Ted Rosenthal, Jon Faddis, Nicole Glover, Jon Benitez, Phil Markowitz, Chris Rosenberg, and a host of others. Eric was featured on two records last year, Kate Kortum's Good Woman, and the Frost Jazz Orchestra's Live In Gusman Concert Hall. Both records can be found on streaming platforms.
As a leader, Eric heads two main projects– his Quintet and his Trio, acronymed ESQ and EST, respectively. His Quintet has performed in NYC at ShapeShifter Lab, Chelsea Table+Stage, and in Miami at venues such as Lagniappe, and for WDNA. His Trio has performed in Miami, NYC, and had a tour of Florida in late February of 2024. The Eric Stern Trio is a musical firebrand exhibiting a high level of chemistry, energy, and passion for the music that is shared amongst the band, and then spread to all who are listening.
