Gerry Weil was born in Vienna-Austria in 1939. For more than half a century he has built a solid career as a pianist, composer, arranger and educator. His musical work is considered among the most valuable within the jazz genre in Latin America, which has allowed him to perform important jazz festivals in Germany, Austria, Spain, Japan, Colombia, Bonaire, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Cuba and the USA. Gerry is undoubted "The master of Venezuelan jazz". His musical training begins after emigrating to South America in 1957. At the age of 17, he began receiving classes from musicians such as Tito Fuentes, Eduardo Cabrera and Rubén Jacpo. However, much of his training was self-taught; He would later take correspondence courses at the prestigious Berkley College of Music in Boston, USA. He currently lives in Venezuela, a land that he considers his "second country", where he is a fundamental icon of the national identity and culture of this fervent country. In 2008 he was awarded the National Music Prize 2006 - 2007. Gerry was also awarded the "Decoration of Merit in Gold" by the Austrian Embassy in Venezuela, in recognition of his musical work.
