Broadway actor and singer Julie Benko joins pianist/composer (and her husband) Jason Yeager for an evening of intimate song, mining the traditions of the Great American Songbook, Black American Music, traditional New Orleans jazz, and contemporary Broadway hits. Tonight they will introduce brand new arrangements and compositions featured on their forthcoming duo album, Hand in Hand, recorded in Brooklyn a few months following their marriage in June 2021. The duo's influences range from Duke Ellington and Chico Buarque to Ella Fitzgerald and Anaïs Mitchell, bringing classic songs into the 21st century. All About Jazz calls Benko "brimming with a fresh creativity and youthful vitality," and Jazz Weekly called her debut, Introducing Julie Benko, "creative and swinging." New York Music Daily called Yeager's most recent release as a bandleader, New Songs of Resistance, "one of the best albums of 2019 in any style of music," while Downbeat Magazine called the album "particularly potent." Mining their diverse array of musical interests, these two combine their distinct sounds to create a compelling and unique euphonic gumbo.
