Manel Fortia is an expressive and melodic bassist from Spain based in New York with a long career as a performer and improviser in jazz that has led him to play with some Grammy Awarded and Nominated musicians such as Dave Liebman, Chris Cheek, Arturo O’Farrill, Chano Dominguez, Eliot Zigmund, Emilio Solla… among many others, and played in some of the most important International Jazz Festivals. He has also led his own projects and has been recognized with multiple awards. His approach of extended techniques at double bass and his creative experimentation combined with a huge melodic sense and deep sound has converted him in one of the most unique and original bassist of the new generation.
On this occasion, he invites flamenco singer Pere Martinez and pianist Max Villavechia from Barcelona; and NYC based drummer Raphael Pannier from Paris, to release this new project that goes deep into the fusion between free and primitive jazz with traditional flamenco in a very original and fresh way. With the Charlie Haden 's Liberation Orchestra as inspiration, this group shows an approach to flamenco from the freest and most colorful side. A special mention to the magnificent voice of Pere Martinez, one of the rising values of the new flamenco based in Barcelona. Freshness, youth, feeling, experimentation and freedom.
