Vocalist Mary Foster Conklin returns to the Soapbox Gallery to celebrate the release of her fifth recording THESE PRECIOUS DAYS (MockTurtle Music). The arrangements are by pianist John diMartino and the band includes Sara Caswell on violin, Ed Howard on bass, Vince Cherico on drums and Guilherme Monteiro on guitar. Just before the shutdown in 2020 they worked together on a unique catalogue of Leiber and Stoller art songs. As the world evolves into a new chapter where nothing is as it was, she explores what’s ahead with songs by Melba Liston, Leonard Cohen, Fran Landesman, Andre & Dory Previn and more. A master storyteller, Conklin is an old school song hound with a talent for uncovering offbeat material and hosts a weekly radio show called “A Broad Spectrum – the Ladies of Jazz” celebrating women composers and lyricists on WFDU.FM on the HD2 channel.
“As someone who values freshness over music that appears regularly in everyone’s repertoire, Conklin brings to life seldom heard or forgotten songs with meaningful lyrics…her versatility, not to mention her eclectic choices proves she’s her own person, her possible influences being but a component of her totality” Bill Donaldson, Cadence
