One Breath Rising is thrilled to celebrate Ahmed Abdullah’s CD release of Diaspora Meets AfroHORN, Jazz: A Music of the Spirit, Out of Sistas’ Place.
Ahmed Abdullah formed his first band 50 years ago in 1972 and has been a prominent member of the New York jazz scene ever since. He worked with the Sun Ra Arkestra for 22 years. Ahmed has served as the Music Director of Sistas’ Place in Bedford-Stuyvesant since 1998 and teaches music at the New School Jazz Program and at Brooklyn’s PS 3. He formed his group, Diaspora, (Dispersions of the Spirit of Ra) 25 years ago. Ahmed and his wife, Monique Ngozi Nri, formed Melchizedek Music Productions and produced Diaspora Meets AfroHORN, Jazz: A Music of the Spirit, Out of Sistas’ Place just before the pandemic.
One Breath Rising is thrilled to present our first live event in over 2 years and to help these two dynamic bands to celebrate their long-awaited CD release!
